Ground Lesson 7 MULTI FUNCTION DISPLAY (MFD) OPERATION Objectives Upon completion of this lesson, the pilot should be able to locate, use, and configure data on the MFD during flight operations. Resources • GIFD Pilot's Guide • GIFD PC-based Simulator Exercise 7.1: MFD Configuration and Controls 1. Which main type of data is presented on the default MFD page display? Map data is the main data type presented on the default Navigation Map Page. 2. What data types can be overlaid on the MFD map? Where are the controls for this data overlay located? Terrain, topography, traffic, and weather information can be overlaid on many MFD map pages by pressing the MAP Softkey and then the respective information softkey. 3. Which MFD page within which page group must be accessed to verify the status of the GIFD's GPS receivers? The AUX - GPS Status Page displays GPS receiver status. 4. How are the Nearest (NRST) pages accessed? Turn the large FMS Knob on the MFD (or remotely-mounted MFD or MFD/PFD Control Unit) to the NRST Page Group (the last main page group). Note that on the PFD, pressing the NRST Softkey accesses the Nearest Airports Window. 5. What types of information can be accessed via the Waypoint (WPT) pages? The Waypoint pages show all of the Jeppesen database data for airports, NAVAIDs, and user-created waypoints. 6. How can map display orientation be changed between north-up and track-up presentations? 1. From the Navigation Map Page, press the MENU Key. 2. Highlight "Map Setup" and press the ENT Key. 3. Use the large FMS Knob to scroll to the "Orientation" field. 4. Use the small FMS Knob to select the desired orientation and press the ENT Key. 7. When panning on the Navigation Map Page, where does information appear about the terrain shown at the Map Pointer cursor location?
