Chapter 1: What's next? After you set up and register the computer, it is important to take the next steps in this guide before you begin using the computer. These steps include setting up your wired and wireless networking features. You will also find practical information to help you protect and maintain the computer. First, read this chapter completely, because it explains what to do and where to find additional information. Then, read specific chapters for additional information. For help in identifying specific components of the computer, refer to the User Guide, which is located in Help and Support. Click Start, click Help and Support, and then click User Guides. Introducing HP QuickWeb (select models only) After you set up your computer, you can activate HP QuickWeb. It provides immediate access to your music, digital photos, and the Web without launching the Windows® operating system. Refer to Chapter 3, "Using HP QuickWeb (select models only)," for additional information. Connecting to the Internet After setting up the computer, set up your wired or wireless network so that you can send and receive e-mail and connect to the Internet. For more information, refer to Chapter 5, "Networking." Updating your antivirus software After you have connected to the Internet, be sure to update your antivirus software. The software is preinstalled on your computer and includes a limited subscription for free updates. Antivirus software helps protect your computer from damage caused by viruses. For more information, refer to Chapter 4, "Keeping your computer safe." Getting to know your computer When you have completed the preceding steps, familiarize yourself with the features of your computer and set up any additional components, such as optional external audio devices. Be sure to review the user guides located in Help and Support on your computer. They provide detailed information about using the computer.
