Playing Back Tapes Playing Back a Tape You can play back type I tapes. 1 Insert a cassette into the cassette compartment with the exposed part of the tape facing left. • When the unit is turned on, the and tape operation indicators appear on the display. To remove the cassette, push 0 on the unit. The and tape operation indicators go off. TAPE Pressing 0 (tape eject) button also turns on the unit. DO NOT press 0 during tape play. To play both sides-Reverse Mode You can set the deck to play just one side or both sides of a tape once, or both sides continuously. Press REV.MODE (reverse mode). REV. MODE • Each time you press the button, the reverse mode changes as follows: 2 Press 2 3 TAPE. 2 3 TAPE Playback starts (if the unit is in standby, the unit automatically turns on). To change the tape direction, press 2 3 TAPE. • Each time you press the button, the tape direction changes as follows: : Plays the front side. : Plays the reverse side. Tape direction and Reverse Mode indicators 12345 TAPE : Plays back only one side (front or reverse). : Plays back the front and reverse sides once. : Plays back both front and reverse sides continuously. • The use of C-120 or longer tape is not recommended, since characteristic deterioration may occur and this tape easily jams in the pinch rollers and the capstans. • You can also play back type II and type IV tapes; however, the sound quality (tone) may not be reproduced properly. Tape direction When the tape plays to the end, the deck automatically stops if the reverse mode is set to or . (See "To play both sides-Reverse Mode" on the right column.) To stop during play, press 7 . To fast-wind or rewind the tape, press 4 or ¢ (or ¢ UP or 4 DOWN on the unit). Prohibiting Cassette Ejection You can prohibit cassette ejection from the unit and can lock the cassette in the cassette compartment-Cassette Lock. You can lock or unlock the cassette when the unit is either turned on or in standby mode. On the unit ONLY: To prohibit cassette ejection, while holding 7, press . "LOCKED" appears on the display for a while, and the loaded cassette is locked. • The loaded discs are also locked. (See page 19.) • When the tape direction is ¢ (¢ UP): Fast-winds the tape. 4 (4 DOWN): Rewinds the tape. • When the tape direction is 4 (4 DOWN): Fast-winds the tape. ¢ (¢ UP): Rewinds the tape. The tape direction indicator (3 or 2) starts flashing rapidly on the display. If you try to eject a locked cassette, "LOCKED" appears to inform you that the Cassette Lock is in use. To cancel the prohibition and unlock the cassette, repeat the above procedure. "UNLOCKED" appears on the display for a while, and the loaded cassette is unlocked. 20
