The latter may happen only with ready-made clothing sewn with a chain stitch. It wont be worthwile to take the machine out for sewing on a single button, but you wel appreciate this feature when sewing lines of buttons on pillow nd bed covers, on shirts or dresses, or when fastening rings on curtains etc. There your machine will come in very handy.
