 Target the subject for which you want to meter the exposure, then press AE LOCK. If you change the composition of your shot, the exposure may be changed, such as by changes in the brightness of the background. In such cases, use the AE lock function. You can shoot freely, regardless of the brightness of the subject. To determine the exposure, measure the exposure of the desired portion of the subject using either center-weighted metering or the spot metering function. Press AE LOCK to lock the exposure, and then recompose the picture and shoot.
