To resume playback from the point where you stopped the disc (Resume Play) When you press H PLAY again after you stop the disc, the recorder resumes playback from the point where you pressed x STOP. To start from the beginning, press x STOP twice, and press H PLAY. The point where you stopped playing is cleared when: - you open the disc tray. - you play another title. - you switch the Title List menu to Original or Playlist (DVD-RW in VR mode only). - you edit the title after stopping playback. - you turn off the recorder. - you make a recording. To repeat a specific portion (Repeat A-B Play) (DVD and VIDEO CD (with PBC function off) only) 1 During playback, press REPEAT. 2 Select "A" using M/m. 3 Press ENTER at the starting point (point A) of the portion to be played repeatedly. "A-" lights up. 4 Continue playing or press m/M to locate the ending point (point B), then press ENTER. Repeat A-B Play starts. To play restricted DVDs (Parental Control) If you play a restricted DVD, the message "Your selection exceeds the rating limit for this player. Override the limit?" appears on your TV screen. 1 Select "OK" and press ENTER. The display for entering your password appears. 2 Enter your four digit password using the number buttons. The recorder starts playback. To register or change the password, see "Parental (DVD VIDEO only)" on page 105. To lock the recorder (Child Lock) You can lock all of the buttons on the recorder so that the settings are not canceled by mistake. When the recorder is turned on, hold down "/1 on the recorder until "CHILD LOCK" appears in the front panel display. The recorder turns off and the indicator remains lit if there is a timer setting. The recorder will not work except for timer recordings. To unlock the recorder, hold down "/1 on the recorder until "CHILD LOCK" disappears from the front panel display. The recorder is unlocked and turns on. To stop timer recording while the recorder is locked, press x twice. The recording stops and the recorder is unlocked. Notes • When playing back a disc recorded by other equipment on this recorder, be sure to finalize the disc with the equipment used to record it. • For details on the operation restrictions, see page 8. • The recorder will be unlocked when: - You stop timer recording by pressing x. - You insert a tape. - The AC power cord is disconnected or power supply stops. 58
