MAINTENANCE Engine Oil Changing Engine Oil and Oil Filter 1. Start and run the engine until it reaches normal operating temperature. Stop the engine. 2. Securely support the motorcycle on the sidestand. 3. Place an oil drain pan under the drain plug and oil filter (center rear of the engine). 4. Remove the drain plug and seal, allowing the oil to drain into the pan. 5. Use an oil filter wrench to loosen the filter slowly. Allow oil in the filter to drain before removing the filter. Remove the oil filter. 6. Use a new seal and reinstall the drain plug. Torque: 20 ft-lbs (27 Nm) 2 1 7. Clean any residue or debris from the oil filter mounting plate and threads. 8. Make sure the new oil filter gasket is properly seated in the oil filter, and apply a thin film of clean engine oil to the gasket. 1.
Start and run the engine until it reaches normal operating
temperature. Stop the engine.
2.
Securely support the motorcycle on the sidestand.
3.
Place an oil drain pan under the drain plug and oil filter (center
rear of the engine).
4.
Remove the drain plug and seal, allowing the oil to drain into
the pan.
5.
Use an oil filter wrench to loosen the filter slowly. Allow oil in
the filter to drain before removing the filter. Remove the oil
filter.
6.
Use a new seal and reinstall the drain plug.
Torque: 20 ft-lbs (27 Nm)
7.
Clean any residue or debris from the oil filter mounting plate
and threads.
8.
Make sure the new oil filter gasket is properly seated in the oil filter, and apply a thin film of clean engine oil to
the gasket. Screw the new filter on until the gasket contacts the filter mounting plate. Tighten the filter
by hand
