interfacing between scanner and HOST computer. The single-chip microprocessor, W78E516 fetches its programs from the ROM embedded in itself. It is dedicated to control the startup/initialization, and self test. To scan an image, the host computer sends a series of SCSI commands to set and get scanning parameters. Then, the host will send SCAN command to inform it to prepare for scanning. After SCAN command completes, the host will send several READ commands to receive scanned data from it. During preparing and scanning, it will accelerate, move and decelerate the line motor. Also the Fluorescent lamp will be turned off if defined time-out has reached before the 2740S scanner system receives any command since last command. The SCSI interface is built in ASIC AP2106A. It handles the handshaking, software protocols, and interfacing SCSI bus. The communication between 2740S scanner and host computer, for both PC and Mac, is achieved via SCSI interface. 5.2 SCSI Interface The 2740S scanner SCSI protocol is built in ASIC AP2106A as its SCSI interface. It is designed to meet the SCSI protocols and allow to direct connection the SCSI bus.This section describes the SCSI Interface.
