Appendix A Frequently Asked Questions A.1 General Questions Q: What is the minimum hardware configuration required for using a scanner? A: (1) Processing Capability 586 Pentium processor or above with 16MB RAM is the suggested minimum required configuration. Additional RAM can improve the speed of image processing and large hard disk storage space can be used as data swapping once the memory is not enough. (2) Display Capability A true-color display card that can support at least 16-bit colors is required. For the professional user, the higher display card that supports more than 24-bit colors could produce superior color images. Q: Does the scanner provide power saving feature? A: Yes. After 15 minutes' pending, the system would shut up the light indicating it is under stand-by mode. Q: What would happen if I do not use the true color card? A: Without a true color display card, the monitor can not reflect the color of original document. You would see many dots on the screen (the dithering image) and color displayed are totally different from the original because of the limited palette (and/or wrong palette set). However, the data captured by the scanner is not affected; that is, the Frequently Asked Questions API Confidential A-1 No Copy/Reproduction allowed
