7.6 About Resolution The resolution is the most important performance of the scanner, and it is under the influence of many factors. Taking the attention to these factors and you can get the maximum resolution and performance. These factors are described in the following: (1) Lamp When the lamp is out of order the intensity of light will reduce and the CCD can't receive enough light to output voltage signal. (2) Lens The lens focus is the decisive factor for the resolution. The image will be formed precisely on CCD because of exact lens focus, and then it produces voltage signal for the image management. Never adjust the fixed hex nut on the lensbox. (3) CCD The CCD's position is fixed and adjusted in the lensbox by two bolts. It owns a precise position while the calibration is finished. If the CCD's position is out of the range, not only the resolution will be affected but also the output image may be strange. Similarly, never try to change the CCD's position. (4) Stepping Motor Stepping motor movement also afftects resolution. If there are troubles at the transmission module (motor, gears, and rack), the image plane forms by vertical scanning lines will likely be twisted. 7-8 API Confidential Maintenance No Copy/Reproduction allowed
