English CHAPTER 6 TROUBLESHOOTING CHAPTER 6 TROUBLESHOOTING ALARM INDICATIONS AT A GLANCE Operator Calls If an error occurs, the printer indicates an "operator call' by blinking the ALARM lamp. The status monitor appears on your computer screen to indicate the error. The printer can recover from most errors if you take the proper action following the displayed instructions. Operator Call Action Cover Open Close the top cover of the printer or press firmly on the multi-purpose sheet feeder to make sure it is properly installed. Mis Feed Reinstall the paper. Paper Empty Load paper into the printer referring to Chapter 2. Paper Jam Clear the paper jam referring to the next section "PAPER JAMS" and press the READY£SLEEP switch if the printer does not automatically resume printing. Do not simply pull the paper out before referring to the next section. Bi-Directional Error Check that the connection between your computer and printer is secure and correct, and check the interface cable, to ensure it is screwed into the back of the computer and secured by the clips on the printer's port. Print Overrun • Turn error recovery operation on in the Setup dialog box. • Reduce the complexity of your document or reduce the print resolution. • Expand the printer memory by installing one of the optional memory boards. Toner Empty Replace the toner cartridge with a new one.  Note If the printer does not operate as you expect it to, it is recommended that you unplug the printer, wait a few seconds and then plug it in again. If you still have problems, consult your dealer or our authorized service representative. 6-1

ALARM INDICATIONS AT A GLANCE
Operator Calls
If an error occurs, the printer indicates an “operator call’ by blinking the
ALARM lamp. The status monitor appears on your computer screen to
indicate the error.
The printer can recover from most errors if you take the proper action
following the displayed instructions.
