22 Replacing the power button with fingerprint reader NOTE: Before working inside your computer, read the safety information that shipped with your computer and follow the steps in Before working inside your computer. After working inside your computer, follow the instructions in After working inside your computer. For more safety best practices, see the Regulatory Compliance home page at www.dell.com/regulatory_compliance. NOTE: Applicable only for computers that are shipped with fingerprint reader. Procedure NOTE: Step 2, 4, and 5 are applicable only for the computers that are shipped with fingerprint reader. 1. Place the power button and fingerprint reader (optional) into its slot on the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. 2. Replace the screw (M1.6x1.8) that secures the fingerprint-reader to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. 3. Replace the screw (M2x1.7) that secures the power button to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. 4. Adhere the tape that secures the power button cable to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. 5. Adhere the fingerprint-reader cable to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. 6. Connect the fingerprint-reader cable to the system board and close the latch. Post-requisites 1. Replace the I/O board. 2. Replace the battery. 3. Replace the I/O-board interposers. 4. Replace the base cover. Replacing the power button with fingerprint reader 39
