INITIAL SETUP Before you begin enjoying your new DVD player, a few adjustments should be made to configure it. Make sure that you have connected a video display to one of the video monitor outputs. When you turn on your display and the DVD 48, you should see the DVD 48's splash screen. The DVD 48 will determine whether a disc is loaded and, if so, begin play. If not, the splash screen will remain. IMPORTANT NOTE: The DVD 48 is not capable of outputting both HDMI and component video signals simultaneously. If you have used either of these connections and have no picture, the likely problem is that the DVD 48 is set to output only the other type of video. This is easily fixed by pressing the HDMI Button on the remote to turn the HDMI Output On or Off as desired. This command will have the opposite effect on the Component Video Outputs. In addition, if you are using the Component Video Outputs and have no picture or a very distorted picture, check whether your display is capable of receiving a progressive-scan video signal. If it is not, temporarily use a composite video connection to the display so that you can view the Setup menus. Press the Setup Button and use the ⁄/¤ Buttons to select the Video tab. Press the Enter Button, and use the ⁄/¤ Buttons again to select the Progressive Scan setting. Use the ⁄/¤ Buttons to change it from On to Off. If you select the video display's component video inputs, you should have no trouble viewing the picture. Alternatively, you may reset the setting to the default Interlaced Scan without using a composite video connection to view the on-screen menus by following these steps: 1. Press the Open/Close Button on the front panel to open the disc drawer. 2. Press the Clear Button on the remote control. 3. Enter the numeric code "1211" on the remote. 4. Press the Audio Button (not Audio Mode). As a last resort, you may perform a system reset that will require you to reenter all user settings. Press and hold the Clear Button on the remote for 5 seconds. The display will blink, and all user settings will return to their factory defaults. Using the On-Screen Menu System The DVD 48 uses two types of menu screens: Setup Menus and Status Displays. Press the Setup Menu Button on the remote to display the SYSTEM SETUP menu. See Figures 19 and 20. 24 Figure 19 - Setup and Navigation Buttons Figure 20 - System Setup Menu Screen All of the DVD 48's menu screens follow the same basic format. Select a menu by highlighting its tab on the left side of the screen. The menu's settings will be previewed, but you will not be able to make any changes. See Figure 20. Press the Enter Button to make adjustments to the menu. The tabs will disappear, and the menu will shift to a grid view, displaying the setting name in the left column and allowing you to select a value in the right column. See Figure 21. Figure 21 - General Setup Menu As shown in Figure 21, the first setting in the menu will automatically be selected. It will be displayed in a different color with arrows on either side. If you wish to change its value, use the ‹ /› Buttons to scroll through the available settings. Some settings changes, especially those pertaining to video, may cause the screen to go dark momentarily as the DVD 48 reconfigures itself. When the desired setting is displayed, use the ⁄/¤ Buttons to select another setting. If the menu has two pages, indicated in the upper right corner by the second number, simply continue to scroll down the list of settings, and the DVD 48 will automatically skip to the second page as appropriate. Some settings display only a right arrow in place of a value. This indicates that the setting leads to a submenu containing additional settings. Press the › or Enter Button to display the submenu.
