INITIAL SETUP To select a language other than those shown, select Others from the menu and press the Enter Button. A dialog box will appear, prompting you to enter a four-digit language code. Look up the desired language code in Table A11 in the appendix and use the Numeric Keys to enter it. This setting will display "Others" rather than the selected language name. This procedure selects a preferred subtitle language, but it will only be available when the disc being played contains that language. The list of subtitles available on any given disc is always shown on the disc jacket, usually at the bottom of the back cover. Use the Subtitle Button during playback to switch subtitling on or off or to select a new subtitle language. If you have selected a subtitle language and subtitles do not appear on screen, press the Subtitle Button to display the current Subtitle setting in the upper left corner of the screen. Each press of the Subtitle button will cycle through the subtitle language options available on the disc. The display will disappear from view 5 seconds after the last button press. If subtitles still do not appear, press the Disc Menu Button to make sure that subtitling has been selected in the disc's menu system. NOTE: Due to the variations in how DVD discs are authored, the subtitle languages displayed by the DVD 48 may not accurately reflect the actual languages available on the disc. It is recommended that subtitles be selected using the disc's menu. DVD Menu Language: This setting selects the language used to display the disc's menus. The default setting is English, but you may select French, Spanish, Japanese, German, Italian or Russian. To select a language other than those shown, select Others from the menu and press the Enter Button. A dialogue box will appear, prompting you to enter a four-digit language code. Look up the desired language code in Table A11 in the appendix and use the Numeric Keys to enter it. This setting will display "Others" rather than the selected language name. NOTE: This setting does not affect the DVD 48's menus or system messages. To change the language for the DVD 48's displays, use the OSD Language setting in the GENERAL SETUP menu. Angle Mark: Some DVDs are programmed with multiple-angle capability, allowing you to view the same scene from a different camera angle. Normally, the angle icon will be displayed on screen continuously during those sections of the disc to inform you that you may press the Angle Button to change to a different view. If you find the appearance of the icon on-screen distracting, set the Angle Mark setting to OFF. The on-screen icon will only appear at the beginning of the sequence for five seconds. The front-panel Angle indicator will remain lit for the duration of the sequence containing multiple camera angles, regardless of the Angle Mark setting. PBC: This setting controls the activation of PBC (Play Back Control) Support for VCD2.0 discs. If you plan to play VCD discs, which are a CD-ROM-based format that predates DVD, we recommend that the setting be turned ON. However, with PBC enabled, the Repeat Track, Repeat Disc and Random functions may not be available for VCDs. The PBC setting may also be changed by pressing the Disc Menu Button repeatedly. Time Interval: JPEG discs will automatically start playing as a slide show. This setting is used to adjust how long each image file remains on screen. The range is between 2 and 10 seconds, with a default of 3 seconds.
