HOW TO USE A HEART RATE WORKOUT CAUTION: If you have heart prob- lems, or if you are over 60 years of age and have been inactive, do not use the heart rate workouts. If you are taking medication regularly, consult your physician to nd whether the medication will affect your exercise heart rate. 1. Put on the optional chest heart rate monitor. Note: For best results, wear the optional chest heart rate monitor to use a heart rate workout. See page 19 for information about the optional chest heart rate monitor. 2. Insert the key into the console. If heart rate workout 18 is selected, the maximum target heart rate setting of the workout will appear in the display after a moment. If desired, press the Intensity increase and decrease buttons to change the maximum target heart rate setting (see EXERCISE INTENSITY on page 25). Note: If you change the maximum target heart rate setting, the intensity level of the entire workout will change. 5. Start the walking belt. Press the Start button or the Speed increase button to start the workout. A moment after you press the button, the treadmill will automatically adjust to the rst speed and incline settings of the workout. Hold the handrails and begin walking. Heart rate workout 9 is divided into several oneminute segments. The same target heart rate setting is programmed for all segments (except for the rst two segments). See HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on page 15. 3. Select a heart rate workout. To select one of the two heart rate workouts, press one of the Workout Select buttons repeatedly until the desired workout appears in the display. When a heart rate workout is selected, the workout name will appear in the display. If heart rate workout 9 is selected, a line representing your heart rate will appear in the display. Each time a heartbeat is detected, a peak will appear in the line. If heart rate workout 18 is selected, a prole of the heart rate settings of the workout and the workout duration will appear in the display. Heart rate workout 18 is divided into 30 one-minute segments. One target heart rate setting is programmed for each segment. Note: The same target heart rate setting may be programmed for consecutive segments. During each segment of the workout, the console will compare your heart rate to the target heart rate setting for that segment. If your heart rate is too far below or above the target heart rate setting, the speed and/or incline will automatically increase or decrease to bring your heart rate closer to the target heart rate setting. Each time the speed and/ or incline of the treadmill is about to change, the speed and/or incline setting will appear in the display and a tone will sound to alert you. 4. Enter a target heart rate setting. If heart rate workout 9 is selected, the target heart rate setting for the entire workout will appear in the display after a moment. If desired, press the Intensity increase and decrease buttons to change the target heart rate setting (see EXERCISE INTENSITY on page 25). 18

HOW TO USE A HEART RATE WORKOUT
1.
Put on the optional chest heart rate monitor.
Note: For best results, wear the optional chest
heart rate monitor to use a heart rate workout. See
page 19 for information about the optional chest
heart rate monitor.

Insert the key into the console.
See HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on page 15.
3.
Select a heart rate workout.
To select one of the two heart rate workouts, press
one of the Workout Select buttons repeatedly until
the desired workout appears in the display. When
a heart rate workout is selected, the workout name
will appear in the display.
If heart rate workout 9 is selected,
a line repre-
senting your heart rate will appear in the display.
Each time a heartbeat is detected, a peak will ap-
pear in the line.
If heart rate workout 18 is selected,
a pro
le of
the heart rate settings of the workout and the work-
out duration will appear in the display.

Enter a target heart rate setting.
If heart rate workout 9 is selected,
the target
heart rate setting for the entire workout will appear
in the display after a moment. If desired, press the
Intensity increase and decrease buttons to change
the target heart rate setting
(see EXERCISE
INTENSITY on page 25).
If heart rate workout 18 is selected,
the maxi-
mum target heart rate setting of the workout will
appear in the display after a moment. If desired,
press the Intensity increase and decrease buttons
to change the maximum target heart rate setting
(see EXERCISE INTENSITY on page 25).
Note: If
you change the maximum target heart rate setting,
the intensity level of the entire workout will change.
5.
Start the walking belt.

to start the workout. A moment after you press the

segments. One target heart rate setting is pro-
grammed for each segment. Note: The same target
heart rate setting may be programmed for consecu-
tive segments.
During each segment of the workout, the console
will compare your heart rate to the target heart rate
setting for that segment. If your heart rate is too far
below or above the target heart rate setting, the
speed and/or incline will automatically increase
or decrease to bring your heart rate closer to the
target heart rate setting. Each time the speed and/
or incline of the treadmill is about to change, the
speed and/or incline setting will appear in the dis-
play and a tone will sound to alert you.
