Write-Protecting a Cassette

Page 30 highlights

Operating the AIT Drive Write-Protecting a Cassette The cassette has a write-protect switch 1 to prevent accidental erasure of data. Before loading the cassette into the drive, position the write-protect switch on the front of the cassette. By moving the switch to SAFE, the cassette is write-protected and by moving the switch to REC, the cassette is write-enabled. 1 Figure 3-2: Cassette write-protect switch NOTE: Your tape switch may differ from the illustration. Using your fingernail, push the switch in the direction of the arrow to protect the tape from writing or accidental erasure. Return the switch to its original position to re-enable writing. Certain AIT cassettes provided by Compaq support Memory in Cassette (MIC). This feature enables the cassettes to store important cassette information in memory, which allows faster access to data. MIC cassettes can be easily identified by the gold connector pads located left of the write-protect switch. IMPORTANT: The Tape Log, which contains a history of usage of the tape, is not updated when the cassette is write-protected. The Tape Log becomes inaccurate if a cassette is used write-protected, and the media warning cannot be relied on to indicate that the cassette needs to be copied and replaced. 3-6 AIT Drive Reference Guide
