1 Introduction Overview Where to find e-DiagTools? On the latest PC models e-DiagTools is available via: • The Utility Partition on the hard disk drive • The HP Brio Assist CD • The HP Image Library and Diagnostics CD • The HP e-DiagTools CD (orderable from the HP e-DiagTools web site) Language: The e-DiagTools' user interface exists in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, and Japanese. Note on the HP Utility Partition and e-DiagTools Every new HP Vectra, Kayak, e-PC and Brio PC model is delivered with a pre-installed hard disk partition called the HP Utility Partition. The Utility Partition is separate from your standard hard disk partition. The HP Utility Partition takes up little space (approx. 15 megabytes, a negligible amount on current multi-gigabyte hard disks) and is transparent to the user. Therefore it does not hinder or confuse the user during the normal operation of the PC. The Utility Partition contains e-DiagTools, HP's powerful and easilyaccessible hardware diagnostics solution with remote capabilities. HP aims to bring future enhancements to the Utility Partition by including further HP diagnostics and utility software. Carrying out diagnostic actions from the Utility Partition avoids the need to locate a CD-ROM or floppy disks, or search the Internet, as the required files are all there on the Utility Partition ready to use. In less than five minutes, eDiagTools will thoroughly test your PC hardware (hard disk, motherboard, video, sound, optical drive, etc.) to help you determine if a problem is hardware related and to localize it. Finally, e-DiagTools can communicate the results directly to your help desk or support provider. For information on the HP Utility Partition, read the "White Paper on the Utility Partition on HP PCs". To find this White Paper, open the web site: www.hp.com/go/vectrasupport then select HP DiagTools Hardware Diagnostics 5
