Intel Server Management (ISM) Installation and User's Guide Installation Steps Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) support must be installed to use HP OpenView. For SNMP configuration information, see your Windows or Red Hat Linux documentation. On the console system(s), when configuring SNMP you must integrate MIB files into the SNMP management consoles (see page 20). SNMP services must also be installed and configured on the console system to enable Platform Event Traps used for ISM LAN Alerts (see page 24). The requirements for the console system may be different than those listed below HP OpenView. Please refer to the HP OpenView installation requirements for more information. Management Station OS and Minimum Hardware Requirements ISM supports these platforms to be used as a management stations. Also, any of the supported servers can act as management stations. • Windows 2000 Advanced Server or Professional (Service Pack 3 or higher), Windows 2003 Advanced Server, or Windows XP Professional • Intel® Pentium® microprocessor, Intel® Celeron® microprocessor, or higher • At least 256 MB of RAM • At least 120 MB of available disk space for the entire set of software • Microsoft Windows-compatible modem must be used if you connect to servers by software by modem Managed Server Requirements For every server you need a login account with root or administrative privileges. In addition, the following requirements must be met for a managed server. These are the requirements to install ISM, not to install the OS or other packages: Windows Server Requirements • Windows 2000 Advanced Server (Service Pack 3 or higher) and Windows 2003 Advanced Server • 256 MB of RAM • 120 MB of available disk space • Windows SNMP service is required for connectivity with an SNMP-based third-party management console or to enable LAN Alerts (see pages 19 and 24) NOTE If you are teaming the NIC1 port with other NIC ports in the system, there could be intermittent connection issues with ISM. Linux Server Requirements • Red Hat Linux Advanced Server 2.1 or Red Hat Linux Advanced Server 3.0 • 32 MB of RAM • 60 MB of available disk space Overview of the Configuration and Installation Process ISM configuration and installation involves both managed servers and management stations as described below. 10

Intel Server Management (ISM) Installation and User's Guide
Installation Steps
10
Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) support must be installed to use HP OpenView. For SNMP
configuration information, see your Windows or Red Hat Linux documentation.
On the console system(s), when configuring SNMP you must integrate MIB files into the SNMP
management consoles (see page 20). SNMP services must also be installed and configured on the console
system to enable Platform Event Traps used for ISM LAN Alerts (see page 24).
The requirements for the console system may be different than those listed below HP OpenView. Please
refer to the HP OpenView installation requirements for more information.
Management Station OS and Minimum Hardware Requirements
ISM supports these platforms to be used as a management stations. Also, any of the supported servers can
act as management stations.
Windows 2000 Advanced Server or Professional (Service Pack 3 or higher), Windows 2003 Advanced
Server,
or Windows XP Professional
Intel® Pentium® microprocessor, Intel® Celeron® microprocessor, or higher
At least 256 MB of RAM
At least 120 MB of available disk space for the entire set of software
Microsoft Windows-compatible modem must be used if you connect to servers by software by modem
Managed Server Requirements
For every server you need a login account with root or administrative privileges. In addition, the
following requirements must be met for a managed server. These are the requirements to install ISM, not
to install the OS or other packages:
Windows Server Requirements
Windows 2000 Advanced Server (Service Pack 3 or higher) and Windows 2003 Advanced Server
256 MB of RAM
120 MB of available disk space
Windows SNMP service is required for connectivity with an SNMP-based third-party management
console or to enable LAN Alerts (see pages 19 and 24)
NOTE
If you are teaming the NIC1 port with other NIC ports in the system, there could be
intermittent connection issues with ISM.
Linux Server Requirements
Red Hat Linux Advanced Server 2.1 or Red Hat Linux Advanced Server 3.0
32 MB of RAM
60 MB of available disk space
Overview of the Configuration and Installation Process
ISM configuration and installation involves both managed servers and management stations as described
below.
