Part 4: Installing Microsoft Windows NT and Configuring the LAN Adapters Installing Microsoft Windows NT In addition to installing Microsoft Windows NT, in this section you also configure the operating system for cluster operations. To install Microsoft Windows NT for Microsoft Cluster Server operations, at both Systems A and B: 1. Insert the Base CD of the Microsoft Windows NT Server, Enterprise Edition and reboot the system. Microsoft Windows NT begins installation. 2. As you proceed through the installation, select these options when prompted. • Accept the AIC-78XX controller driver selection. • Install Windows NT on unpartitioned space, not on the EISA utilities partition. • Enable networking. At the network Adapters screen install the network adapter for the intra-cluster (heartbeat) interconnect: 1. Click "Select from list". 2. Select the HP 10/100TX PCI Ethernet Adapter and click OK. 3. When prompted to use DHCP, select No. 4. Enter an IP address and subnet mask for the intra-cluster network card. See the "Microsoft Cluster Server Administrator's Guide" for guidance on selecting an IP address and subnet mask for the intra-cluster network card. • Finish the installation of Windows NT, Enterprise Edition by installing Service Pack 3. NOTE Do NOT install the Microsoft Cluster Server (MSCS) software at this time. 3. After Windows NT is installed, you may change the video driver. Windows NT installs a generic video driver that does not permit you to use the full resolution of the video chip. From the Start menu, choose Settings | Control Panel | Display | Settings | Display Type | Change. Select the Trident 9000 video driver and click OK. You will be prompted to supply the driver; it is located on the Base Windows NT CD. After rebooting you may use the full video resolution of the video chip. 4. Install the client network adapter. From the Start menu, choose Settings | Control Panel | Network | Adapters | Add. Select the network adapter you are using to connect to the client network and click OK. When prompted, supply the TCP/IP properties for this network connection. After installing Windows NT on both systems, proceed to Part 5: Installing the HP NetRAID Software and Configuring Disk Arrays. Installing Microsoft Windows NT
In addition to installing Microsoft Windows NT, in this section you also configure the operating system for cluster
operations.
To install Microsoft Windows NT for Microsoft Cluster Server operations, at both Systems A and B:
1.
Insert the Base CD of the Microsoft Windows NT Server, Enterprise Edition and reboot the system.
Microsoft Windows NT begins installation.
2.
As you proceed through the installation, select these options when prompted.
Accept the AIC-78XX controller driver selection.
Install Windows NT on unpartitioned space, not on the EISA utilities partition.
Enable networking.
At the network Adapters screen install the network adapter for the intra-cluster
(heartbeat) interconnect:
1.
Click "Select from list".
2.
Select the HP 10/100TX PCI Ethernet Adapter and click OK.
3.
When prompted to use DHCP, select No.
4.
Enter an IP address and subnet mask for the intra-cluster network card.
See the "Microsoft
Cluster Server Administrator’s Guide" for guidance on selecting an IP address and subnet
mask for the intra-cluster network card.
Finish the installation of Windows NT, Enterprise Edition by installing Service Pack 3.
NOTE
Do NOT install the Microsoft Cluster Server (MSCS) software at this time.
3.
After Windows NT is installed, you may change the video driver.
Windows NT installs a generic video
driver that does not permit you to use the full resolution of the video chip.
From the Start menu, choose Settings | Control Panel | Display | Settings | Display Type | Change.
Select the
Trident 9000 video driver and click OK.
You will be prompted to supply the driver; it is located on the Base
Windows NT CD.
After rebooting you may use the full video resolution of the video chip.
4.
Install the client network adapter.
From the Start menu, choose Settings | Control Panel | Network | Adapters
| Add.
Select the network adapter you are using to connect to the client network and click OK.
When
prompted, supply the TCP/IP properties for this network connection.
After installing Windows NT on both systems, proceed to Part 5: Installing the HP NetRAID Software and
Configuring Disk Arrays.
