Before removing the hard drive, follow these steps: 1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. 2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer. 3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer. 4. Remove the battery (see Battery on page 44). 5. Remove the service door (see Service door on page 45). Remove the hard drive: 1. Disconnect the hard drive connector cable (1). 2. Remove the Phillips M2.0x5.0 screw (2) that secures the hard drive to the computer. 3. Pull up on the hard drive tab (3) until the hard drive rests at about a 45-degree angle. 4. Remove the hard drive (4) from the hard drive bay at the same angle. 5. If it is necessary to replace the hard drive bracket, follow these steps: a. Disconnect the cable adapter (1) from the hard drive. b. Remove the four Phillips M3.0×3.0 screws (2) that secure the hard drive bracket to the drive. Component replacement procedures 51

Before removing the hard drive, follow these steps:

that secures the hard drive to the computer.
3.
Pull up on the hard drive tab

until the hard drive rests at about a 45-degree angle.
4.
Remove the hard drive
(4)
from the hard drive bay at the same angle.
5.
If it is necessary to replace the hard drive bracket, follow these steps:
a.
Disconnect the cable adapter

from the hard drive.
b.
Remove the four Phillips M3.0×3.0 screws
(2)
that secure the hard drive bracket to the
drive.
