5-4 Compaq ProLiant CL380 User Guide Determining the Cables Needed To customize the cabling needs of your Compaq ProLiant CL380 to your specific application, use the following procedure: 1. Determine whether the cabling needs are internal or external. 2. Determine whether external cabling needs are for shared storage, server node primary storage (hard drive) or for server node secondary storage (tape drives or CD-storage system). 3. Identify the controller type. 4. Identify the drive type and expansion slot to be used. Ultra2 or Ultra3 SCSI hard drive Tape drive CD-ROM drive 5. Refer to the appropriate matrix in the following pages to determine the correct usage and routing of the cables specific to your situation. IMPORTANT: Only the controllers listed in the matrices in this chapter are supported by the Compaq ProLiant CL380. Removable Media Devices Each server node supports up to two non-hot-plug devices in the removable media bays. For an illustration and table of recommended drive configurations refer to Chapter 1, "ProLiant CL380 Features." Each pair of half-height removable media bays can support the following removable media devices: 1.6-inch or 1-inch form factor non-hot-plug drive DAT or SLR half-height tape drive Full-height DLT drive Two 1-inch non-hot-plug Ultra2 or Ultra3 SCSI hard drives

Compaq ProLiant CL380 User Guide
Determining the Cables Needed
To customize the cabling needs of your Compaq ProLiant CL380 to your
specific application, use the following procedure:
1.
Determine whether the cabling needs are internal or external.
2.
Determine whether external cabling needs are for shared storage,
server node primary storage (hard drive) or for server node secondary
storage (tape drives or CD-storage system).
3.
Identify the controller type.
4.
Identify the drive type and expansion slot to be used.
±
Ultra2 or Ultra3 SCSI hard drive
±
Tape drive
±
CD-ROM drive
5.
Refer to the appropriate matrix in the following pages to determine the
correct usage and routing of the cables specific to your situation.
IMPORTANT:
Only the controllers listed in the matrices in this chapter are supported by
the Compaq ProLiant CL380.
Removable Media Devices
Each server node supports up to two non-hot-plug devices in the removable
media bays. For an illustration and table of recommended drive configurations
refer to Chapter 1, “ProLiant CL380 Features.” Each pair of half-height
removable media bays can support the following removable media devices:
1.6-inch or 1-inch form factor non-hot-plug drive
DAT or SLR half-height tape drive
Full-height DLT drive
Two 1-inch non-hot-plug Ultra2 or Ultra3 SCSI hard drives
