Using the Compaq Installation Service, The Optimum Environment

Page 58 highlights

Installing the ProLiant CL380 Rack Model 3-5 Using the Compaq Installation Service You may choose the optional installation service offered by Compaq to install your rack products. The installation service can be customized to meet your specific requirements, or ordered as a Carepaq. The basic installation service includes the entire hardware installation, from unpacking the components to connecting to a network and running a test of the system. Hardware installation service is available in all countries where Compaq has a direct or indirect service presence. It may be ordered from a Compaq authorized reseller or, in the United States, call Compaq at 1-800-OK COMPAQ. The Optimum Environment When installing your system, certain accessibility, temperature, and power requirements must be met. Data Protection for High-Availability Environment In environments where data must be protected, it is strongly recommended that an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) be used. The UPS provides time in the event of a power failure to complete any transactions in process and to empty the data in processor and controller caches to permanent disk storage. The UPS protects data being processed to the ProLiant CL380. Without a UPS, in the event of electrical power loss, transactions in process are not completed and the data being processed would be lost. To maximize performance, the CR3500 RAID Controller write-back cache reports a transaction as complete once the data is in cache. IMPORTANT: In the event of loss of power, this data in cache is lost and erroneous results are reported. Use of a properly sized UPS provides sufficient time for all results in both the server and the CR3500 RAID Controller cache memory to be recorded to permanent disk storage. An alternative to the use of a UPS is to disable the CR3500 RAID Controller write-back cache; however, this reduces system performance slightly. The CR3500 RAID Controller write-back cache is disabled by default.

Installing the ProLiant CL380 Rack Model
3-5
Using the Compaq Installation Service
You may choose the optional installation service offered by Compaq to install
your rack products. The installation service can be customized to meet your
specific requirements, or ordered as a Carepaq. The basic installation service
includes the entire hardware installation, from unpacking the components to
connecting to a network and running a test of the system. Hardware
installation service is available in all countries where Compaq has a direct or
indirect service presence. It may be ordered from a Compaq authorized reseller
or, in the United States, call Compaq at 1-800-OK COMPAQ.
The Optimum Environment
When installing your system, certain accessibility, temperature, and power
requirements must be met.
Data Protection for High-Availability Environment
In environments where data must be protected, it is strongly recommended that
an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) be used. The UPS provides time in the
event of a power failure to complete any transactions in process and to empty
the data in processor and controller caches to permanent disk storage. The
UPS protects data being processed to the ProLiant CL380. Without a UPS, in
the event of electrical power loss, transactions in process are not completed
and the data being processed would be lost. To maximize performance, the
CR3500 RAID Controller write-back cache reports a transaction as complete
once the data is in cache.
IMPORTANT:
In the event of loss of power, this data in cache is lost and erroneous results
are reported. Use of a properly sized UPS provides sufficient time for all results in both the
server and the CR3500 RAID Controller cache memory to be recorded to permanent disk
storage.
An alternative to the use of a UPS is to disable the CR3500 RAID Controller
write-back cache; however, this reduces system performance slightly. The
CR3500 RAID Controller write-back cache is disabled by default.
