Diagnostics 59 The Compaq Diagnostics Utility now includes a web browser interface in addition to the command-line interface. This enables remote control of the utility and facilitates easy transfer of Compaq Diagnostic's information from remote machines to a service provider. The information the Compaq Diagnostics Utility gathers is accessible from two locations: s locally on the computer's console s remotely or locally from a browser This combination of features simplifies the service process and minimizes downtime. Versions of the Compaq Diagnostics Utility are available for Microsoft Windows 95/98 and NT. The utility is supported on all Compaq computer products. Compaq Diagnostics is just one part of a larger architecture that will enhance problem resolution and support of Compaq computers. It also demonstrates the capabilities of the WBEM initiative. Installation Compaq Diagnostics Utility can be installed through the SmartStart setup process (except Windows 95/98), from the Compaq Softpaq Utility, or the software pre-install process in the factory. The Compaq Diagnostics Utility can only be installed on computers running Windows 95/98 or NT. The utility is installed on the same drive as the operating system in the \CPQDiag directory. Installation Through SmartStart To install the Compaq Diagnostics Utility through the SmartStart setup process, refer to the SmartStart Installation Poster (Part Number 298138-008) included with the SmartStart kit. This method installs operating system and Compaq products on a server. Do not use this method to add the Compaq Diagnostics Utility to an existing system. Installation Through Compaq Softpaq Utility To install the Compaq Diagnostics Utility from the Compaq Softpaq Utility, run SETUP.BAT from the Compaq Diagnostics diskettes created from Softpaq.
