Installing an adapter The following describes how to install adapters in the server. Installing the Remote Supervisor Adapter II SlimLine The optional IBM Remote Supervisor Adapter II SlimLine must be installed in its dedicated connector on the I/O board. The following illustration shows how to install the Remote Supervisor Adapter II SlimLine. Note: If a Remote Supervisor Adapter II SlimLine is installed in the server, when you turn on the server for the first time, the server might appear to be unresponsive for an unusual length of time (one minute to several minutes). Front standoff Remote Supervisor Adapter II SlimLine connector I/O board Rear standoff Remote Supervisor Adapter II SlimLine Complete the following steps to install a Remote Supervisor Adapter II SlimLine. 1. Note the location of the internal cables connected to the I/O board; then, remove the cables from the I/O board and move them out of the way. 2. Remove the I/O board from the server and place the I/O board on a flat, static-protective surface with the connectors facing up. 3. Insert the front of the adapter into the front standoff; then, rotate the rear of the adapter into the rear standoff. 4. Press the Remote Supervisor Adapter II SlimLine firmly into the connector. 5. The
optional

SlimLine
must
be
installed
in
its

the

board.
The
following

Note:

server,

you

1.
Note
the

of

remove

cables

board

the
I/O
board
from
the
server
and
place
the
I/O
board
on
a

static-protective
surface
with
the

3.
Insert
the

of
the
adapter
into
the
front
standoff;
then,
rotate
the

the
adapter
into
the
rear
standoff.
4.
Press
the
Remote
Supervisor
Adapter
II
SlimLine
firmly
into
the
connector.
5.
Reinstall
the
I/O
board
in
the
server
and
reconnect
the
internal
cables
to
the
I/O
board.
