Identifying parts on the system board The system board, also called the planar or motherboard, is the main circuit board in your computer. It provides basic computer functions and supports a variety of devices that are IBM-installed or that you can install later. See the following illustration for the location of parts on the system board. 1 Microprocessor 2 DIMM connectors (1, 2, 3 left to right) 3 Front panel connector 4 Power connector 5 Diskette drive connector 6 Primary IDE connector 7 Secondary IDE connector 8 Clear CMOS/Recovery jumper 9 Battery 10 SCSI LED connector 11 PCI slots 12 Front panel audio connector 13 CD-ROM audio connector 14 AGP slot 15 12V Power connector Removing the cover Important Read before removing the cover read "Safety information" on page 187 and "Handling electrostatic discharge-sensitive devices" on page 190. To remove the cover: 1. Shut down your operating system, remove any media (diskettes, CDs, or tapes) from the drives, and turn off all attached devices and the computer. 2.
