IBM Enhanced Diagnostics IBM Enhanced Diagnostics is provided on your hard disk drive and on the Product Recovery CD. It is a self-extracting file that runs independently of the operating system. You can run IBM Enhanced Diagnostics to diagnose hardware and some software problems. The user interface for running these diagnostic and utility programs is provided by WaterGate Software PC Doctor. The IBM Enhanced Diagnostics will isolate your computer hardware from software that was preinstalled (or that you have installed) on your hard disk. The programs run independently of the operating system, and must be run either from CD or diskette. You can use this program to test the hardware (and some software) components of your computer. This method of testing is generally used when other methods are not accessible or have not been successful in isolating a problem suspected to be hardware related. To create a startable diagnostic diskette from the pre-installed program on your hard disk drive: 1. From the Windows 98 desktop, double-click on IBM Welcome Center. 2. In the IBM Welcome Center window, click on Customize your system software 3. Click on Run the Software Selections program from the hard drive. The program initializes. 4. Click on Install Software. 5. Check IBM Enhanced Diagnostics in the menu box. 6. Click on Install in the bottom right corner of the screen. 7. click on Install in the Software Selections Install Progress menu box. A DOS window appears. 8. Press Enter to continue and read the license information. Follow the instructions that appear at the bottom of the window. 9. When prompted, insert a blank, high-density diskette into the diskette drive and press Enter. 10. When the process is complete, remove the diskette and label it. 11. Click on Return.
