5. Install the 2.5-inch drives and the fan assembly. See "Installing or replacing a hot-swap drive" on page 33 and "Replacing the fan assembly" on page 42. 6. If you are instructed to return the old drive cage, follow all packaging instructions and use any packaging materials that are supplied to you for shipping. Replacing the backplane Attention: Do not open your storage array or attempt any repair before reading and understanding "Safety information" on page iii and "Guidelines" on page 31. This topic provides instructions on how to replace the backplane. Before you begin, print all the related instructions or ensure that you can view the PDF version on another computer for reference. Notes: • This action must be performed only by Lenovo service personnel. See Chapter 8 "Getting information, help, and service" on page 63. • The backplane is sensitive to ESD. Ensure that you read and understand "Handling static-sensitive devices" on page 31 first and carefully perform the operation. • Use any documentation that comes with the new backplane and follow those instructions in addition to the instructions in this topic. • Depending on the model, your storage array might look slightly different from the illustrations in this topic. • It is recommended that you wait three to five minutes to let the storage array cool before replacing the backplane. To replace the backplane, do the following: 1. Disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the storage array. 2. If the storage array is installed in a rack cabinet, remove the storage array from the rack cabinet and place it on a flat, clean, and static-protective surface. See "Removing the storage array from the rack cabinet" on page 55. 48 ThinkServer Storage SA120 User Guide and Hardware Maintenance Manual
