Problem Randomly spaced bright pixels ("noise") appear in image. Images are too dark (underexposed). Images are too bright (overexposed). Unexpected results when flash set to V (auto with red-eye reduction). Skin tones are not softened. Saving images takes time. A ring-shaped belt or rainbow-colored stripe appears on the screen or images. Cause/Solution A The subject is dark and the shutter speed is too slow or ISO sensitivity is too high. Noise can be reduced by: • Using the flash 50 • Specifying a lower ISO sensitivity setting 133 • The flash mode is set to W (off). • The flash window is blocked. • The subject is beyond the range of the flash. • Adjust exposure compensation. • Increase ISO sensitivity. • The subject is backlit. It may take more time to save images in the following situations: • When the noise reduction function is in operation, - such as when shooting in a dark environment • When the flash mode is set to V (auto with red- 51 eye reduction) • When capturing images in the following scene modes: - Hand-held in Night portrait 31 - Hand-held in Night landscape 32 - HDR is set to ON in Backlighting 33 - Easy panorama 37 • When the skin softening function is applied while 43 shooting • When using continuous shooting mode 131 When shooting with backlighting or when a very strong light source (such as sunlight) is in the frame, a ring-shaped belt or rainbow-colored stripe (ghosting) may occur.
