Choosing a Focus Mode Choose a focus mode according to the subject and composition. Mode Description Camera automatically adjusts focus according to distance to subject. Z Autofocus Use when subject is 30cm/1ft. or more from lens (70cm/2ft. 4in. or more when camera is zoomed all the way out). Use when shooting distant scenes through foreground objects such as a Infinity windows or when shooting landscapes at ranges of 5m/16ft. 5in. or more. Flash turns off automatically. b Focusing limit Use for faster focus at ranges of 2m/6ft. 7in. or more. Use for close-ups. If zoomed in or out until E icon in display turns E Macro green, camera can focus on objects as close as 4cm/1.6in. to lens. close-up Camera focuses continuously until shutter-release button is pressed halfway. 1 Focus 2 Focus Display options. Highlight mode. 3 Make selection (to exit without changing mode, wait five seconds). Selection is shown by icon in display (if Z is selected, Z icon is displayed for five seconds only).
