Never force the cards when inserting them, or subject them to sharp blows. • Avoid handling and storing SmartMedia cards in a hot, damp environment. • Do not touch the contact area (gold electrodes) of the SmartMedia card with bare hands. If a SmartMedia card gets dirty, wipe it with a soft, dry cloth. • SmartMedia cards may be vulnerable to electrostatic data corruption. When carrying a SmartMedia card, put it in its case. Remember to back up data from SmartMedia cards to a PC or other storage medium from time to time (→ P.40-41). • Corrupted, lost, or erased data cannot be restored. 13
