With Windows Media Player®, you can play Windows® Media Audio, Windows Media Video, and MP3 audio files that are stored on your phone, on a memory card, or on the Web. About DRM, licences, and protected files Some digital media files, such as songs downloaded from online stores, are encrypted to prevent the files from being unlawfully distributed or shared. Content providers use a technology called Digital Rights Management (DRM), to encrypt the files. During the encryption process, the content provider creates a licence which specifies how and when the file can be used. 92
