Section 6: Connections Wi-Fi Wi-Fi is a wireless networking technology that provides access to local area networks. Wi-Fi communication requires access to an existing Wi-Fi network. Wi-Fi networks can be Open (unsecured), or Secured (requiring you to provide login credentials). Your device supports the 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz) Wi-Fi protocols. Turn Wi-Fi On or Off When Wi-Fi is turned on, your tablet will notify you of available Wi-Fi networks, and you can connect to the Wi-Fi networks. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps g Settings g Connections tab. 2. Locate the Wi-Fi field and tap OFF/ON to turn Wi-Fi on or off. Tip: You can also quickly turn Wi‑Fi on or off using Quick Settings. From a Home screen, sweep your finger downward to display the Notification Panel. Tap the Wi-Fi button to turn Wi‑Fi on (green) or off (gray). Scan and Connect to a Wi-Fi Network When you turn on Wi-Fi, your device searches for available Wi-Fi connections and displays them. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps g Settings g Connections tab. 2. Locate the Wi-Fi field and tap OFF/ON to turn Wi-Fi on. 3. When your device completes a scan, tap a Wi-Fi network to connect. If the Wi-Fi network is open, you will be automatically connected. If the Wi-Fi network is secured, enter the password at the prompt to connect. Add a Wi-Fi Network Manually 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps g Settings g Connections tab. 2. Locate the Wi-Fi field and tap OFF/ON to turn Wi-Fi on. 3. On the pop-up Wi-Fi settings screen, tap Add Wi-Fi Network (below the scanned networks), then enter these fields: ● Network Name (SSID): Enter the name of the Wi-Fi network. ● Security: Select the type of security used by the Wi-Fi network. ● Password: If the network is secured, enter the password. Touch Show password to display it. ● Show advanced options: Select the Proxy settings and IP settings for the network. 4. Tap Connect to save the settings and connect to the network. Wi-Fi Status Indicators The following icons show your Wi-Fi connection status at a glance: Displays when Wi-Fi is connected, active, and communicating with a Wireless Access Point (WAP). Displays when there is a Wi-Fi access point available but you are not connected to it. May also display if there is a communication issue with the target Wireless Access Point (WAP). Displays when connected to another device using Wi-Fi Direct. Auto network switch Auto network switch allows your device to automatically switch between a Wi-Fi network and a mobile network. 1. From the main Wi-Fi screen, tap Auto network switch to create a check mark. 2. Tap OK to activate the feature. Advanced Settings Set up and manage wireless access points. ► From the main Wi-Fi screen, tap Menu for options: ● Advanced: - Network notifications: Send a notification when an open network is available. - Sort by: Sort available Wi-Fi networks alphabetical or by signal strength. - Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep: Specify when to switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data for data communications when the tablet goes to sleep (when the backlight goes out). - Always allow scanning: Allow Google location service and other apps to scan for networks, even when Wi-Fi is turned off. - Install certificates: Install certificates from a memory card. - MAC address: View your device's MAC address (not configurable). - IP address: View your device's IP address (not configurable). ● WPS push button: Set up a connection to a WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) router or other equipment. ● WPN PIN entry: View the PIN used by your tablet to set up a PIN-secured connection to a Wi-Fi router or other equipment (not configurable). ● Help: Learn about setting up and using Wi-Fi networks. Wi-Fi Direct Wi-Fi Direct allows devices to connect to each other directly via Wi-Fi, without a Wi-Fi network or hotspot, and without having to set up the connection. For example, your tablet can use Wi-Fi Direct to share photos, contacts and other content with other Wi-Fi Direct devices. Many of the apps on your device provide options for sharing via Wi-Fi Direct.. Turn Wi-Fi Direct On 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps g Settings g Connections tab. 2. Locate the Wi-Fi field and tap OFF/ON to turn Wi-Fi on. (Wi-Fi must be enabled to use Wi-Fi Direct.) 3. Tap Wi-Fi Direct to activate the feature. Turn Wi-Fi Direct Off 1. From the main Wi-Fi screen, tap Wi-Fi Direct to view connections. 2. Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi is a wireless networking technology that provides access to local area networks.
Wi-Fi communication requires access to an existing Wi-Fi network. Wi-Fi networks can be Open (unsecured), or

Turn Wi-Fi On or Off

Wi-Fi Status Indicators
The following icons show your Wi-Fi connection status at a glance:
