Troubleshooting Chart References - Troubleshooting Chart - Many potential "problems" can be resolved by the owner without calling a service technician. If something is wrong with this product, check the following before calling your authorized SHARP dealer or service center. s General Symptom q The clock is not on time. q When a button is pressed, the unit does not respond. q No sound is heard. Possible cause q Did a power failure occur? q Reset the clock. (Refer to page 15.) q Set this unit to the power stand-by mode and then turn it back on. q If the unit still malfunctions, reset it. (Refer to page 30.) q Is the volume level set to "0"? q Are the headphones connected? q Are the speaker wires disconnected? s CD player Symptom q Playback does not start. q Playback stops in the middle or is not performed properly. q Playback sounds are skipped, or stopped in the middle of a track. Possible cause q Is the disc loaded upside-down? q Does the disc satisfy the standards? q Is the disc distorted or scratched? q Is the unit located near excessive vibrations? q Is the disc very dirty? q Has condensation formed inside the unit? s Cassette deck Symptom q Cannot record. q Cannot record tracks with proper sound quality. q Cannot erase completely. q Sound skipping. q Cannot hear treble. q Sound fluctuation. q Cannot remove the tape. Possible cause q Is the erase-protection tab removed? q Is it a normal tape? q (You cannot record on a metal or CrO2 tape.) q Is there any slack? Is the tape stretched? q Are the capstan, pinch rollers, or heads dirty? q If a power failure occurs during playback, the heads remain engaged with the tape. Do not open the compartment forcibly. Wait until electricity resumes. s Tuner Symptom q Radio makes unusual noise consecutively. Possible cause q Is the unit placed near the TV or computer? q Is the FM/AM loop antenna placed properly? Move the AC power cord away from the antenna if located near. s Remote control Symptom q The remote control does not operate. Possible cause q Is the AC power cord of the unit plugged in? q Is the battery polarity correct? q Are the batteries dead? q Is the distance or angle incorrect? q Does the remote control sensor receive strong light? s Condensation Sudden temperature changes, storage or operation in an extremely humid environment may cause condensation inside the cabinet (CD pickup, tape heads, etc.) or on the transmitter on the remote control. Condensation can cause the unit to malfunction. If this happens, leave the power on with no disc (or cassette) in the unit until normal playback is possible (about 1 hour). Wipe off any condensation on the transmitter with a soft cloth before operating the unit. 29
