Symptom The flash does not work. The date and time are recorded incorrectly. Vertical streaks appear when you are shooting a very bright subject. The battery life is short. The indication of the battery remaining time is not proper. The power is immediately turned off even if the battery remaining indicator indicates that the battery level is sufficient. The zoom does not work. Digital zoom does not function. Cause and/or Solution • The flash is set to . t Set the flash to (no indication), , or (page 22). • The camera is in one of the following PROGRAM AE modes: Twilight, Twilight plus, or Landscape. t Cancel the PROGRAM AE function or set the flash to (page 22, 51). • The PLAY/STILL/MOVIE selector is set to MOVIE. t Set it to STILL. • The flash is not popped up. t Pop up the flash (page 22). • The date and time are not set correctly. t Set the correct date and time (page 12). • This is called the smear phenomenon. t This is not a malfunction. • You are recording/playing back images under extremely cold temperatures. • The battery pack is not charged enough. t Charge the battery pack fully. • The battery pack is dead. t Replace the battery pack with a new one. • You are using the camera for many hours under extremely hot or cold temperatures. • The battery pack is dead. t Replace the battery pack with a new one (page 8). • The battery level is too low. t Install the charged battery pack (page 8, 9). •- t Charge the battery pack about one hour after the normal charge is complete (page 9). • PROGRAM AE is set to the Panfocus mode. t Cancel the Panfocus mode (page 51). • You cannot use digital zoom to record moving pictures.
