n 145 N Customizing Your VAIO Computer Protecting the Hard Disk Your computer has the VAIO HDD Protection utility preinstalled for customizing your settings for protecting your hard disk drive against shock hazards. You can select the sensitivity level of the built-in shock sensor to set the appropriate protection level. Activating VAIO HDD Protection To protect your hard disk drive against shock hazards, you must first activate VAIO HDD Protection. To activate VAIO HDD Protection 1 Click Start, All Programs, and VAIO Control Center. The VAIO Control Center window appears. 2 Double-click Security and Hard Disk Drive Protection Settings. The VAIO HDD Protection window appears. 3 Select the Activate hard disk drive protection check box. 4 Select one of the desired sensitivity level. 5 Click OK. For more information, open the help file from the VAIO HDD Protection window. ! VAIO HDD Protection is designed to minimize possibilities of damage to hard disk drives and user data. It does not ensure 100% data protection under any circumstances. Hard disk drive protection is disabled before Windows launches and during a shift to Hibernate or Sleep mode, system recovery, and system shutdown.
