Chapter 4. Configuring your server The following configuration programs are provided with your server. • Configuration/Setup Utility This program is part of the basic input/output system (BIOS) code that comes with your server. You can use this program to configure serial- and parallel-connector assignments, change the drive startup sequence, set the date and time, and set passwords. For more information about how to start this utility, see "Starting the Configuration/Setup Utility program". • Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet Boot Agent The Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet Boot Agent is part of the BIOS code that comes with your server. You can enable the Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet Boot Agent in the Configuration/Setup Utility program. The Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet Boot Agent enables you to configure the network option as a startable device and customize where the network appears in your startup sequence. • SCSISelect Utility (some models) With the SCSISelect Utility program, you can configure the devices that are connected to the optional SCSI controller or adapter. Use this program to change default values, resolve configuration conflicts, and perform a low-level format on a SCSI hard disk drive. For information about how to start this utility, see "Starting the SCSISelect Utility program" on page 34. • ServerGuide Setup and Installation CD The ServerGuide™ Setup and Installation CD includes software setup and installation tools that are specifically designed for IBM xSeries servers. You can use this CD during the initial installation of your server to configure the server hardware and to simplify your NOS installation. The ServerGuide Setup and Installation CD also contains a collection of application programs that you can install after your server is up and running. See "Using the ServerGuide Setup and Installation CD" on page 34. See the User's Guide on the IBM xSeries Documentation CD for detailed instructions for using the configuration programs and ServerGuide Setup and Installation CD. Starting the Configuration/Setup Utility program The Configuration/Setup Utility program is a menu-driven utility that is part of the BIOS code that comes with your server. You can use it to: • Configure serial connector assignments • Change the drive startup sequence • Enable USB keyboard and mouse support • Resolve configuration conflicts • Set the date and time • Set passwords Complete the following steps to start the Configuration/Setup Utility program: 1. Turn on the server and watch the monitor screen. 2. When the message Press F1 for Configuration/Setup appears, press F1. 3. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen. 33

Configuration/Setup Utility
This program is part of the basic input/output system (BIOS) code that comes with
your server. You can use this program to configure serial- and parallel-connector
assignments, change the drive startup sequence, set the date and time, and set
passwords. For more information about how to start this utility, see “Starting the
Configuration/Setup Utility program”.
Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet Boot Agent
The Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet Boot Agent is part of the BIOS code
that comes with your server.
You can enable the Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit
Ethernet Boot Agent in the Configuration/Setup Utility program.
The Broadcom
NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet Boot Agent enables you to configure the network
option as a startable device and customize where the network appears in your
startup sequence.
SCSISelect Utility
(some models)
With the SCSISelect Utility program, you can configure the devices that are
