Figure 5-40 Memory limits for processes in groups This tab lets you set three parameters, which are configured in increments of 1,024 KB: The first one configures working set limits (minimum and maximum). The working set is the physical memory allocated to the process group. If the process group's memory requirement exceeds the maximum size of the working set, the balance will be satisfied by paging to disk, even if there is available memory on the system. The second field defines an upper limit for the memory, physical and virtual, each process can use. The third field sets the total amount of memory that can be used by the entire group of processes. These settings collectively can prevent any single process or the process group from depriving the rest of the system of needed memory resources, either physical memory or pagefile space. The next tab on the Properties window, the Time tab, is relevant to batch processes. It is shown in Figure 5-41 on page 168. Chapter 5. Management 167

Memory limits for processes in groups
This tab lets you set three parameters, which are configured in increments of
1,024 KB:
±
The first one configures working set limits (minimum and maximum). The
working set is the physical memory allocated to the process group. If the
process group
s memory requirement exceeds the maximum size of the
working set, the balance will be satisfied by paging to disk, even if there is
available memory on the system.
±
The second field defines an upper limit for the memory, physical and virtual,
each process can use.
±
The third field sets the total amount of memory that can be used by the entire
group of processes.
These settings collectively can prevent any single process or the process group
from depriving the rest of the system of needed memory resources, either
physical memory or pagefile space.
The next tab on the Properties window, the Time tab, is relevant to batch
processes. It is shown in Figure 5-41 on page 168.
