3 BASIC OPERATION Meter display DDMeter display selection You can display one of the 6 different transmit parameters (Po, SWR, ALC, COMP, VD and ID) for your convenience. Touch the parameter to display one of the meters. DDMulti-function meter You can display all the parameters simultaneously. LThe TEMP meter is also displayed on the Multi-function meter. Hold down the parameter for 1 second to display the Multi-function meter. ALC meter ALC zone Multi-function meter Displays the drain voltage of the final amplifier MOS-FETs. TX inhibit zone Displays the temperature of the final amplifier MOS-FETs. S: Displays the receiving signal strength level. Po: Displays the relative RF output power. SWR:  Displays the SWR of the antenna at the frequency. ALC: Displays the ALC level. When the meter movement shows the input signal level exceeds the allowed level, the ALC limits the RF power. In such cases, decrease the microphone gain level. COMP: Displays the compression level when the speech compressor is used. VD: Displays the drain voltage of the final amplifier MOS-FETs. ID: D isplays the drain current of the final amplifier MOS-FETs. TEMP: Displays the temperature of the final amplifier MOS-FETs. Adjusting the microphone gain Adjust the microphone gain as described below. 1. Set the operating mode to SSB, AM or FM. 1 (p. 3-2) 2. Push MULTI to display the Multi-function menu. 2 3. Rotate MULTI to adjust the microphone gain. LLInformatio •• In the SSB mode, touch the TX meter to select the ALC meter and adjust until the meter reading swings between 30 to 50% of the ALC scale. •• Hold the microphone 5 to 10 cm (2 to 4 inches) from your mouth, then speak at your normal voice level. •• In the AM or FM mode, check the audio clarity with another station, or use the Monitor function (p. 4-8). 6. Adjusting the microphone gain
Adjust the microphone gain as described below.
1.
Set the operating mode to SSB, AM or FM.
