Self-Timer Mode The self-timer can be used to reduce camera shake or for self-portraits. 1 Mount the camera on a tripod or place the camera on a stable, level surface. 2 Press the button until is displayed in the control panel. 3 Frame the photograph. Before taking a photograph with the flash in P, S, A, or M modes ( 45), press the button to raise the flash and wait for the indicator to be displayed in the viewfinder ( 40). The timer will stop if the flash is raised after the timer has started. 4 In modes other than M, remove the viewfinder eyepiece cup and insert the supplied DK-5 eyepiece cap as shown. This prevents light entering via the viewfinder interfering with exposure. 5 Press the shutter-release button halfway to focus, and then press the button the rest of the way down to start the self-timer. The self-timer lamp will start to blink and a beep will begin to sound. Two seconds before the photograph is taken, the self-timer lamp will stop blinking and the beeping will become more rapid. At default settings, the shutter will be released ten seconds after the timer starts. The timer will not start if the camera is unable to focus or in other situations in which the shutter can not be released. The self-timer can be cancelled by selecting another shooting mode. Turning the camera off cancels self-timer mode and restores single frame or continuous shooting mode.
