Taking Pictures in Black-and-White: Black-and-White Selecting Black-and-white for Optimize image displays the menu shown at right. Choose Normal to take standard black-and-white pictures, or Custom to adjust sharpening and tone compensation before shooting as described in on page 80. Custom also supports the following color filter effects: Filter effect Off Yellow Orange Red Green Description No color filter effect. Enhances contrast. Can be used to tone down the brightness of the sky in landscape photographs. Orange produces more contrast than yellow, red more contrast than orange. Softens skin tones. Can be used for portraits. Black-and-white indicators appear in the control panel and viewfinder when Black-andwhite is selected for Optimize image ( 5-7). Image Quality (All Modes) Seven options are available for image quality. See "Reference: Image Quality and Size" ( 33).
