Taking Photographs-Self-Timer Mode Self-Timer Mode Delaying Shutter Release The self-timer can be used to reduce camera shake or for self-portraits. To use the self-timer: 1 Mount the camera on a tripod (recommended) or place the camera on a stable, level surface. 2 Press the shooting mode dial lock release and rotate the shooting mode dial to select (self-timer mode). 3 Frame the photograph and focus. If autofocus is in effect, be sure not to block the lens when activating the self-timer. In single-servo autofocus ( 70), photographs can only be taken if the in-focus (●) indicator appears in the viewfinder. Close the Viewfinder Eyepiece Shutter In exposure modes other than manual, close the viewfinder eyepiece shutter after focusing. This prevents light entering via the viewfinder from interfering with exposure. 4 Press the shutter-release button all the way down to start the self-timer.
