Technical Notes-Caring for the Camera Caring for the Camera Storage and Maintenance Storage When the camera will not be used for an extended period, replace the monitor cover, remove the battery, and store the battery in a cool, dry area with the terminal cover in place. To prevent mold or mildew, store the camera in a dry, well-ventilated area. Do not store your camera with naphtha or camphor moth balls or in locations that: • are poorly ventilated or subject to over 60% humidity • are next to equipment that produces strong electromagnetic fields, such as televisions or radios • are exposed to temperatures above 50 °C/122 °F (for example, near a space heater or in a closed vehicle on a hot day) or below -10 °C (14 °F) See "Caring for the Camera and Battery" ( iv-v) for more information. Cleaning Camera body Use a blower to remove dust, dirt, or sand then wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. After using the camera at the beach or seaside, wipe off any sand or salt with a dry cloth lightly dampened with fresh water, then dry thoroughly. The camera may be damaged if foreign matter gets inside the camera body. Nikon cannot accept liability for damage caused by dirt or sand. These elements are made of glass and are easily damaged. Remove Lens, dust and lint with a blower. If using an aerosol blower, keep the can mirror, and vertical to prevent the discharge of liquid. To remove fingerprints and viewfinder other stains, apply a small amount of lens cleaner to a soft cloth and clean with care. Remove dust and lint with a blower. When removing fingerprints and Monitor other stains, wipe the surface lightly with a soft cloth or chamois leather. Do not apply pressure, as this could result in damage or malfunction. Ambient Use a blower to remove dust and lint, then wipe gently with a soft, dry light sensor cloth. Do not use alcohol or lens cleaning solutions. The Monitor Should the monitor break, care should be taken to avoid injury caused by broken glass and to prevent liquid crystal from entering your eyes and mouth. The Control Panel Rarely, static electricity may cause the control panel to brighten or darken. This does not indicate a malfunction; the display will shortly return to normal. 241
