Troubleshooting Problem Cause/Solution • Digital zoom is set to Off in the setup menu. • Digital zoom cannot be used in the following situations. - When Scene auto selector, Portrait or Night Digital zoom cannot be portrait is selected for scene mode used. - When smile mode is selected - When Multi-shot 16 is selected for Continuous - Before movie recording begins (digital zoom of up to 2× can be applied while movies are being recorded) Image mode not available. Image mode cannot be adjusted when Multi-shot 16 is selected for Continuous. • Off is selected for Shutter sound of the Sound settings option in the setup menu. • Continuous, BSS, or Multi-shot 16 is selected for No sound when shutter Continuous in shooting menu. is released. • When Museum is selected in scene mode. • Sport continuous mode is selected. • D mode is selected. • Do not block the speaker. AF-assist illuminator does not light. • Off is selected for AF assist in the setup menu. • AF-assist illuminator turns off automatically in some scene modes. Pictures appear smeared. Colors are unnatural. Randomly spaced bright pixels ("noise") appear in image. Pictures are too dark (underexposed). Lens is dirty. Clean lens. White balance does not match light source. The subject is dark, so shutter speed is too slow or ISO sensitivity is too high. Noise can be reduced by: • Use flash. • Specifying a lower ISO sensitivity setting. • Using a scene mode which has noise reduction ability. • Flash is W (off ). • Flash window is blocked. • Subject is beyond flash range. • Adjust exposure compensation. • Use high sensitivity mode, or raise the ISO sensitivity. • Subject is backlit. Use Backlight or change the flash mode to X (fill flash). Pictures are too bright (overexposed). Adjust exposure compensation.
