Servicing Your Ranger 2. Remove the key from the ignition after you turn the engine off. 3. Block the wheels. This will prevent your vehicle from moving unexpectedly. Working with the engine on: 1. Set the parking brake fully, and make sure the gearshift is securely latched in P (Park) (automatic transmission) or Neutral (manual transmission) and block the wheels. When the transfer case is in the N (Neutral) position, the engine and transmission are disconnected from the rest of the driveline. Therefore, the vehicle is free to roll even if the automatic transmission is in P (Park) or the manual transmission is in gear. Do not leave the vehicle unattended with the transfer case in the N (Neutral) position. 2. Block the wheels. This will prevent your vehicle from moving unexpectedly. RWARNING Do not start your engine with the air cleaner removed and do not remove it while the engine is running. 259
