SMS text messages SMS text message basics About SMS text messages With an SMS phone number, you can send and receive SMS text messages. An SMS phone number is a phone number that your wireless service provider sets up for SMS text messaging. If you have more than one phone number associated with your BlackBerry® device, your device sends SMS text messages using the first phone number that appears in the drop-down list at the top of the phone screen. You can send SMS text messages to contacts who have SMS phone numbers. You can also forward SMS text messages as PIN or email messages. Find your SMS phone number In the phone, your phone number appears at the top of the screen. If your wireless service provider has set up your BlackBerry® device for SMS text messaging, this number is also your SMS phone number. If you have more than one phone number associated with your device, the first phone number that appears in the drop-down list at the top of the screen is your SMS phone number. Send an SMS text message 1. In a message list, click the trackwheel. 2. Click Compose SMS. 3. Perform one of the following actions: • If the contact is not in your address book, click Use Once. Click SMS. Type an SMS phone number (include the country code and area code). Click the trackwheel. Click Continue. • If the contact is in your address book, click a contact. Click SMS . 4. Type a message. 5. Click the trackwheel. 6. Click Send. Add a contact to an SMS text message You can send an SMS text message to up to ten recipients. 1. When composing an SMS text message, click the trackwheel. 2. Click Add Recipient. 3. Click a contact. 56
