Scanning Film Scanning Film This scanner can scan 35 mm film strips one frame at a time. Preparing to Scan Film Use the following procedures to place the Film Adapter Unit and the Film Guide on the document glass to scan film. • Clean the document glass before placing the Film Guide on it, otherwise dirt and dust can affect image quality or damage the film. • You cannot scan film with the scanner in the upright position. 1 Attach the cable for the Film Adapter Unit to the FAU connector on the scanner's back panel. 2 Open the document cover and place the Film Guide on the document glass of the scanner. Calibration Align the two film guide tabs over the slots at the documen glass edge and secure it with the clip at the back. Calibration is required the first time the scanner is used to scan film. This procedure adjusts the scanner output so that items are reproduced with the correct coloration. It is explained below using the example of ArcSoft PhotoStudio and ScanGear CS in Simple Mode. 1 Remove the CAP from the Film Adapter Unit and gently set the Film Adapter Unit over the first frame in the Film Guide (frame closest to the front). • If there is film in the Film Guide, remove it before setting the Film Adapter Unit on it. • Be careful not to lose the CAP or to allow dirt into it. Position the Film Adapter Unit so that its alignment tab is aligned with the Film Guide. 11
