Network Connection Considerations Network Connection Considerations This section describes the considerations for each type of network connection available for a Cisco 4000 series router. Ethernet Connections The following sections describe the two types of Ethernet network processor modules: single-port and dual-port modules. Note The single-port Ethernet network processor module is not supported on the Cisco 4500-M and Cisco 4700. Single-Port Ethernet Module Connections Each single-port Ethernet network processor module has an Ethernet AUI connector and a 10BaseT connector. (See Figure 2-5.) (Only one connector on the module can be used at a time.) Use either an IEEE 802.3 AUI or a 10BaseT cable to make the connection. Selecting the Media Type The media type connection, AUI or 10BaseT, is selected by the media command. Enter the media command in the router's configuration file to configure your selection of AUI or 10BaseT on the desired interface. The syntax of the media command follows: media-type aui media-type aui 10baset The following is an example of configuring the Ethernet 0 interface for a media type AUI connection: router> enable Password: router# configure terminal Enter configuration commands, one per line. Ethernet Connections
The following sections describe the two types of Ethernet network processor modules: single-port

Note
The single-port Ethernet network processor module is not supported on the Cisco 4500-M
and Cisco 4700.
Single-Port Ethernet Module Connections
