2 Installation Overview Before installing the Adapter in your server, make sure that the system is powered down and that you follow ESD procedures to reduce the risk of damage to the Adapter or the server electronics. See Appendix A regarding ESD information. Installing Adapter in PCI Slot Install the Adapter in any standard PCI slot. The following generalized installation steps pertain to most PCI installations. Most system chassis are either vertical or horizontal orientated, therefore, you should install your card depending on the orientation of your system. Consult your server or workstation manual for PCI card installation. General Steps 1. Back up your work and turn off power to your system. 2. Remove the chassis cover. 3. Locate an empty PCI expansion slot in your system. 4. Remove the expansion slot cover. (Save the slot cover screw.) 5. Insert the HP Fibre Channel Adapter into the slot until it is firmly seated. Refer to Figure 2-1. on page 6. 6. Replace the slot cover screw. 5

Overview
Before installing the Adapter in your server, make sure that the system is

Installing Adapter in PCI Slot
Install the Adapter in any standard PCI slot. The following generalized
installation steps pertain to most PCI installations. Most system chassis are

manual for PCI card installation.
General Steps
