Basic System Test What is Tested What is Tested Although the following list varies slightly for different OmniBook products, the basic tests typically include the following: • Basic Functionality Tests, to verify the correct functioning of the processor and subsystems: o Basic processor functionality o Processor speed o Coprocessor o DMA controller o Interrupt controller o Timer and real time clock o CMOS o PCI system o USB • Memory Tests, to check the correct functioning of main and cache memory: o BIOS ROM o Pattern Test o Address o Refresh o Cache memory • IDE hard disk drive, to check the basic functioning of any IDE hard disk drives: o Quick random read-verify/seek o Boot sector • SCSI hard disk drive, to check the basic functioning of any SCSI hard disk drives: o Quick random read-verify/seek o Boot sector • Keyboard tests: o Keyboard controller o Keyboard clock line o Keyboard data line • Other tests: o Basic serial port test (does not include data transfer - this is an advanced test) o Basic parallel port test 3-7
