Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. 2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer. 3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer. 4. Remove the battery (see "Battery" on page 4-6). 5. Remove the following components: h. Optical drive (see "Optical drive" on page 4-7) i. Hard drive (see "Hard drive" on page 4-9) j. Keyboard (see "Keyboard" on page 4-15) k. Keyboard cover (see "Keyboard cover" on page 4-17) l. Power button board (see "Power button board" on page 4-19) m. Display assembly (see "Display assembly" on page 4-20) n. Top cover (see "Top cover" on page 4-28) o. Speakers (see "Speakers" on page 4-35) p. System board (see "System board" on page 4-37) Remove the fan/heat sink assembly: 1. Turn the system board right-side up, with the front toward you. 2. Removal and replacement procedures
Fan/heat sink assembly
Before removing the fan, follow these steps:
1.
Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on,
and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then
unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the battery (see

).
5. Remove the following components:
